Seriál Smallville popisuje mladí a dospívání mladého Clarka Kenta, který zápasí s různými problémy, které vyplývají z jeho nadlidských schopností, které sdědil po svých biologických rodičích z daleké planety Krypton. Tato planeta byla zničena, ale Clark byl zachráněn za pomoci svých rodičů, kteří ho v malé kosmické lodi poslali na Zem. Na Zemi se ho ujme rodina Kentových, kteří si ho adoptují a starají se o něj jako o vlastního, neboť vlastní dítě mít nemohou. Clark žije v Smallville spolu se svými přáteli a rodinou, se kterými zažívá různé dobrodružství, při nichž dostává nové a nové schopnosti. A když se do jeho života zaplete rodina Luthorů v čele Lionela a Lexa, ozve se Clarkův biologický otec Jor?el, nastanou problémy s ovládáním svých schopností a samozřejmě ještě i lidské problémy, jako například domácí povinnosti, škola, dospívání a problematická láska, dáte si z čehož vznikne zajímavý seriál. To všechno je právě spojené v tomto seriálu, který spojuje hned několik žánrů najednou, které ale spolu vytvářejí zajímavý celek, který každým rokem utváří ucelenější představu o životě Supermana v jeho ranném životě.
